We’re celebrating National Indigenous History Month

Date: June 1, 2022

June is National Indigenous Heritage Month! We’re committed to learning more this month about the languages, cultures and immeasurable contributions of First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples.

Here are some ways we are learning and serving as an Indigenous ally this month.

Exploring History

Our staff are encouraged to start their learning journey with resources provided by the Government of Canada and explore the rich and diverse cultures, voices, experiences and histories of First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples. Click here to learn more.

Understanding Reconciliation

Our staff are encouraged to learn how the Government of Canada is working to advance reconciliation and renew the relationship with Indigenous peoples, based on recognition of rights, respect, cooperation and partnership. Click here to learn more.

Truth and Reconciliation Commission Calls to Action

Our staff are encouraged to learn about the 2015, Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada (TRC) report detailing the experiences and impacts of the residential school system, creating a historical record of its legacy and consequences. Actively Participating

Westoba is encouraging all staff to participate in events taking place in our communities to recognize National Indigenous Peoples Day on June 21. Watch for our team participating in the Brandon National Indigenous People Day (NIPD) Tipi Challenge on Monday, June 20th.
