Thanks to funding received from Westoba Inspire, the Community Health and Housing Association Westman Region (CHHA) Global Kitchen has created a positive space to bring people together. After plenty of hard work and perseverance, the space is now open for use!
Aimed at improving food security in our community, CHHA Executive Director, Stephanie Lockerby says the space extends beyond being just a kitchen.
“The Global Kitchen is more than just preparing and providing food,” said Lockerby. “It provides opportunities for individuals to meet and develop new relations, share their heritage, cultures, experiences and help build understanding and acceptance between people of diverse backgrounds.”
In 2020, the Global Kitchen was being used for the interim Withdrawal Support Service Centre (WSS), a non-medical detox, while its new location was being built. The original design did not meet the program’s needs. Extensive work on the function of the space, ventilation system and delays due to Covid and construction delayed the completion of the project.
The Westoba Inspire Community Investment Program will be accepting applications March 1 to 31, 2024 for projects that support community infrastructure. Keep an eye out on our socials for more information.
