Our own Maureen Bonar is Westoba’s Official Host
Westoba is excited to announce that we’re an Official Supporter of the 2019 Tim Hortons Brier being held at Westoba Place, right here in Brandon! The 2019 Tim Hortons Brier starts March 2nd until March 10th. Westoba is the presenting partner of the Autograph Sessions and will have volunteers on-site at Westoba Place during Brier week.
Meet Maureen, Westoba’s official host of the 2019 Tim Hortons Brier! Imagine our amazement and excitement at having a curling champion working right here at Westoba with us! Maureen will break down the 2019 Tim Hortons Brier, interviewing athletes and fans in the autograph session, and will be providing us with her expertise throughout the Brier.
Maureen’s career on the ice started at the young age of 12 when she was recruited to spare in a Deloraine High School Bonspiel. Maureen jumped at the chance to play with the older kids and this determination was carried throughout her illustrious curling career. She quickly fell in love with the sport and became very good, very fast! After playing throughout junior and senior school, Maureen’s curling career really took off when she joined the Winnipeg Junior Super League while completing her university studies. She earned a Provincial Junior Title before moving to Women’s Curling where she enjoyed many years of competitive action.
Alongside collecting many tournament and championship titles at rinks scattered across Canada, Maureen was blessed to have shared the rink with many generations of curlers. From the teams of Dot Rose, Joan Ingram and Mable Mitchell, to the teams of Cheryl Bernard, Connie Laliberte and Sandra Schmirler, to present day leaders like Jennifer Jones and Rachel Homan– Maureen played her way through to evolution of the sport.
