Westoba is proud to provide funding in the amount of $10,000 to the Opasquia Trails Inc. to support accessibility improvements to the Grace Lake Boardwalk project through our Westoba Inspire Program.
Opasquia Trails Inc., a grassroots non-profit in The Pas, Manitoba, is dedicated to creating inclusive outdoor spaces that promote community well-being and environmental stewardship. As part of the Grace Lake Boardwalk and Boreal Hiking Trail Accessibility Project, this funding will be used to create a fully accessible viewing platform and lookout point at the trail’s end.
The Grace Lake Boardwalk and Boreal Trail is a community-driven project that continues to grow. It now features a 370-metre floating boardwalk stretching along the shores of Grace Lake, minutes east of The Pas. This boardwalk connects to an 800-metre land-based interpretive loop that winds through a vibrant boreal forest. The trail has become a local attraction, boosting tourism and inspiring new experiences in the area.
Opasquia Trails Inc. Treasurer, Heather Perchaluk said the new scenic lookout viewing platform at the end of the trail will be a meaningful addition for many in the community.
“The viewing platform gives everyone a comfortable, level place to rest and enjoy the view without worrying about uneven ground,” said Perchaluk. “People who use mobility aids like wheelchairs or walkers will be able to access the platform easily, making it possible for them to fully experience the trail.”
The viewing platform offers a quiet, steady place for educators, bird watchers and nature enthusiast to observe the landscape safely. Completion of this project is expected in summer 2025.
