Westoba Credit Union

History

Enriching lives and communities by helping financial dreams come true.

Westoba has come a long way from its humble beginning as a part-time credit society operating out of the local co-op office. We launched on October 3, 1963, as Brandon Consumers Credit Union Society Ltd.  Four years later we opened our first full-time office and hired a full-time manager.

We adopted the name Westoba in 1973 to better reflect the members we served throughout the Brandon area. By 1997, we had 15 branches. This was more than any other credit union in the province at the time. Today our network stretches from The Pas to Cartwright and east to Winnipeg, and through our virtual bank, MAXA Financial, we serve members right across the country!

As Westoba evolved over the years, so did member needs. Our commitment to meeting those needs led to a number of innovations and Manitoba firsts. We were first to operate an ATM outside Winnipeg, first to introduce a drive-through ATM and first to have an online banking system.

Thanks to loyal people like you – our members – Westoba is now one of the largest credit unions in the province. We serve more than 37,000 members and have 13 branches across the province.

We’re your friendly neighbourhood credit union that makes managing your money simple. Through a network of partners and subsidiaries, our members have access to a full range of financial services from traditional banking to financial planning.
